The Challenge
Child maltreatment which include neglect, abuse, and exploitation remains a silent crisis in sub-Saharan Africa. According to the World Health Organization nearly one in four children in the region experience physical abuse, and over 42% of girls report experiencing emotional or sexual violence before age 18. Children living in poverty, displacement, or with caregivers struggling with unaddressed trauma face increased vulnerability. At the same time, mental health services remain scarce with fewer than one mental health worker per 100,000 people which leaves trauma largely unaddressed and intergenerational cycles of harm unbroken.
How We Help
We believe that healing communities starts with healing individuals. Our programs support children exposed to maltreatment and their caregivers through therapy-informed, community-based support models that blend psychosocial healing with income-generating activities. This dual approach allows families to restore emotional well-being while also improving economic stability—both essential for ending cycles of harm.
Our focus area
Prevent and respond to child maltreatment through school and community-based interventions.
